No matter what you’re sending, the basic costs of air freight depend on the size of the shipment or how much it weighs.
Before you can get an accurate quote for your freight movement, you'll need to know both the dimensions of the freight (including packaging) and its weight. The dimensions are used to calculate the cubic (volumetric) weight and are compared with the actual (dead) weight of the shipment. The higher of the two will be what your basic charges will be based on. Depending on the shipment, there may be other fees which apply.
Here’s how it works in three easy steps:
In this example, the actual (dead) weight = 30kg
The cubic (volumetric) weight is calculated using the dimensions of the package: Length x Width x Height (in metres).
So that's 0.50m x 0.60m x 0.20m = 0.06m3
Converting the cubic weight is as easy as multiplying the cubic space (in this example 0.06m3) by our standard rates:
So, cubic weight for this shipment would be:
Actual (dead) weight = 30kg
Cubic weight = 10.02kg for international shipments or 12kg for domestic shipments.
As 30kg is the higher number, your freight costs will be based on the applicable rate in $AU x 30kg (plus applicable surcharges).
