Tips for packing a box

Pack your air freight items well, so they arrive in the best possible condition. Here's a list of best practice packing tips to help get you underway.

Watch our short packing video for a quick summary of the steps below.

Tip 1: Use quality supplies

Consider buying new quality materials like cardboard boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, pliable cardboard and paper to pack your gifts. By doing this, you’ll ensure that you’re not using materials that may have weakened with age.

Tip 2: Choose the right sized box

Make sure your box is larger than the item you’re sending.

Tip 3: Stuff hollow items and wrap each item individually

Anything from light bulbs to fine china should be wrapped separately according to size and weight. All loose pieces and attachments should be removed and wrapped in bubble wrap or other insulating material.

Tip 4: Use soft materials to fill in the gaps

Make sure your item can’t move around in its box by filling the gaps with soft materials like packing paper, bubble wrap or Styrofoam peanuts.

Tip 5: Seal your boxes well with packing tape

Tape down all open sides of your box with tape.

Tip 6: Label your boxes

Display your air waybill clearly on the box, along with any 'fragile' or 'this side up' labels.

Tip 7: Don't rush

Give yourself plenty of time to carefully wrap and pack delicate items. It might be a two-person job, so ask your family or friends for help. Extra hands may be needed.
